The Lancia Stratos is one of very few undisputed automotive legends. It has everything going for it: A gorgeous, compact Bertone body, an incredible-sounding V6 engine, and an unbelievable motorsport pedigree. But there's one problem: Real ones cost well north of $500,000 these days unless you find a good replica for sale like the one listed on Cars and Bids.
It’s no ordinary replica, either. It's a rare Lister Bell STR. While Lister Bell is now known as LB Specialist Cars, the STR remains one of the most accurate and thoughtfully re-engineered replicas of the storied mid-engined sports car. LB has been making the replicas since 2010, offering them with a wide variety of engines, transmissions, and bodies ranging from normal Stratos with a 2.5-liter V6 to full-on Group B replicas with an optional Ferrari V8.
This particular replica has the in-your-face Gp4 round-arch fiberglass body and rally lights but uses a 3.0-liter Alfa Romeo Busso V6, making it a true connoisseur’s Stratos. It’s judged just right, and doesn’t go too far in making it a race car. It has all of the ‘70s rally cool factor, but with a relatively tame drivetrain and reasonably furnished interior, it’s a true alternative to Sunday morning caffeine. It was imported as a kit car in 2013 and finally titled in 2017, and it looks like it was built reasonably well, though it's impossible to say without driving it.
With five days to go, the high bid is already up to $45,000, meaning the STR won’t go cheap. But, with any luck, it will still go for a fraction of the cost of a real one, all while providing the majority of the real experience. This, my friends, is the perfect time to send your holiday gift list to your billionaire friends. Put this Stratos right at the top.
